Need some Valentine’s Day gift ideas under $20? I got you covered!
This year, I actually already have G’s birthday AND Valentine’s Day gifts. I got them in December, right when I was buying his Christmas gifts as well. His birthday is two weeks after Valentine’s Day, so it means that December and January are rough months for me when I’m not doing so well financially. I decided to just get it out of the way and run with Boxing Day sales! Luckily, this year I’m better off than I’ve been in a while, too — and my sister gets a discount at Chapters! CHA-CHING, savin’ dollas! You bet that’s where I got most of his stuff!
But for those of you who don’t have a super awesome sister with the super awesome perk of discounts at the best store ever, let me help you out with a few ideas.
G and I aren’t crazy into Valentine’s Day or anything, but we like to get each other something small just for fun. It’s usually sweet, but we also just get each other stuff that we know the other will like. Last year, he framed the photos we had taken at one of those mall photo booths on my birthday, and I got him this pixel heart heat-changing mug, since he’s a bit of a nerd. And that was it.
So the things I found for you are generally cute, but geared toward some kind of interest. All of them are gift ideas under $20. Let me know what you think!

IF THEY LOVE BEER & BOOKS: Beerology: Everything You Need to Know to Enjoy Beer… Even More
Honestly, I would have gotten this for G if I hadn’t already got him stuff! It’s not really romantic, per se, but pair it with a case of beer and settle in for a movie night in and you got it!
IF YOUR PERSON LOVES TEA OR COFFEE: You Are My Person Mug
This is on the expensive side for a mug, but seriously it’s so cute. It’s heat sensitive — it looks like a plain black mug when cold, but when you pour a hot drink into, it turns white and reveals the message!
IF THEY’RE YOUR TECH NERD: The “Have you tried turning it off and on?” IT Crowd Mug
Hilarious. If they’re into IT, they will LOVE this. Bonus if they like IT Crowd. (If they don’t… they’ll feel cool being part of an IT Crowd, since it’s labelled on the mug!) Check it out at ThinkGeek by clicking here.
IF THEY ARE A PROUD FEMINIST & (OCCASIONALLY) WEAR CLOTHING: “This is what a feminist looks like” tank top or T-shirt
We have a few options here, so I just picked the tank top. If you like, just click here to find everything Amazon.ca has with this phrase — they have T-shirts, hoodies, and sweaters sized for men and women. (Click here if you’re in the US.)
IF THEY ARE A PROUD FEMINIST & HAVE AN IPHONE: The Feminist iPhone Case
[This is my plug to see if G reads my blog — I really would LOVE this one… suits me, doesn’t it?! I’ll let you know if he catches on.]
IF THEY’RE A GAME NERD: 8-Bit Bouquet
As ThinkGeek put it, sometimes even a self-rescuing Princess needs flowers. Check it out here.
IF THEY LOVE HARRY POTTER: The Triwizard Cup Charm
Because they are your champion! (Right? Right?! You love it, I know you do!)
Get this charm, and then just grab a necklace or bracelet from a shop in town and you’re set.
IF THEY ARE SCIENCE-Y OR THEY LOVE ANATOMY: Anatomic Heart Specimen Coasters
Because they stole every piece of your heart. (I came up with that one all by myself!) Get mushy here.
IF THEY LOVE STAR WARS: I Love You / I Know Rings
You keep one, they get one! And then go watch the new movie again like true fans. Awaken the Force here. Yes, I just did that. It happened. Now go have a great V-Day.
Which of these do you like best? Do you have any other suggestions?
