It’s been another week in the life of Matrix the kitten, and he is continuing to grow and get bigger…
We spent a few days switching him over from Natural Balance kitten food to Royal Canin, since our vet recommended that or the brand she sells by Hill’s, specifically for urinary health since apparently male cats need extra help in that area. We’re going with Royal Canin right now and maybe we’ll switch to Hill’s when he’s a year-ish.
And we discovered he’s a picky eater! He wouldn’t eat much of his food in the early days of switching over, where he had 75% his old food and 25% new. Seems like he LOVES food with fish in it… good thing this new stuff at least has fish oil! He’ll eat it all now, but he takes a longer time to eat it. But I’m happy he’s eating it at all — the first few days we had him we were feeding him what they gave him at the shelter, and he just refused. They didn’t really tell us what kind, but they told us the brand. Turns out chicken is boring for Matrix. There better be fish oil in that Hill’s food the vet gives us!
We’ve also discovered that cardboard tubes are the best. We finished a roll of paper towels, and I just tossed it over to him to see if he’d like it. And oh my goodness does he ever. It was his new favourite toy for a good couple days! He wrestles with it just like he wrestles with his big mouse (I guess it’s the right size…?) and he loves to chase it while it rolls around.
He also really, really enjoys an empty beer bottle box, tipped on its side. He tends to attack the flaps and hide inside when he’s pouncing on other toys. Smarty pants.
Also, my allergies are better! I went two whole days without any Reactine before giving in. That second day was pretty sniffly and irritable on my part, but that’s a record at this point so I’m happy. I’ve just been going one day off one day on lately. I’ll be seeing a new doctor in two weeks — finally, a doctor that I can see regularly! — and I’m hoping she’ll help me out with a long-term plan.
Aside from that, he has found more new spots (pictures below), he’s scratched up my left hand pretty good, and he still loves my head. Anyone have any tips for what I can do to get him to leave my hair alone?!
