February 2016 was my second month self-hosting my blog! Last month I showed you what my first month self-hosting was like, and I’m keeping my promise to do this monthly. Please feel free to contact me along the way — I love meeting other bloggers, and it would be great to have a friend to help me stay accountable to my goals!
February 2016 Wins
Found my niche!
This month I focused a lot on writing as much content as I could, narrowing in on feminism, gender, and sexuality. I’ve gone back and forth in deciding whether to also write about living on a budget, but for now I’m sticking to those main topics! (Yay! I did it!)
It was REALLY hard to make myself sit down and cross things off to find my real passions, but I know that it’s the right way to go. I love writing about feminism, gender, and sexuality most, and it seems like that’s what you like to read from me the most too. In fact, I bet the reason my numbers didn’t increase this month is because I spent so much time — almost two weeks — not writing about those topics! So, that’s my niche. I expect to be able to dabble in other topics (like living on a budget) later on as my blog grows. Woohoo!
Found other blogs like mine.
This has been particularly exciting — to be honest, I thought it was going to be really hard because from googling I was finding big blogs rather than individual personal ones like mine. But from using Twitter and Pinterest, I’ve found a few I really like! I’m also noticing a lot of comments are from bloggers like me. Here are the ones I’ve been enjoying most:
Grew my Pinterest following… a little!
I have to admit, I set an achievable goal but I got distracted within the first two weeks by all sorts of webinars and email courses and strayed away from my focus on Pinterest. I did get back on track though – I’ve found that deleting pins that don’t get repinned helps a lot, and I unfollowed everyone I’m not interested in so that my feed is only full of what I care about. Now when I go on Pinterest I’m only pinning awesome stuff, and lots of my pins are getting repinned! Plus Pinterest is still my number one referrer for traffic. Whoo!
Stopped trying to learn everything at once, and just focused on one thing at a time.
I did achieve this, but only at the end of the month when I signed up for Elite Blog Academy. I unsubscribed from EVERYTHING except EBA so that all the voices trying to get all my attention would shut the hell up and I could focus. So far that’s going really well!
I created a new freebie, which you get when you sign up for my newsletter.
I made it when I was thinking about writing more about living on a budget, so right now it’s a mini e-book called 12 Money-Saving Tips For the Frugal Feminist. I’m working on another one that focuses more on feminism and less on saving money, so get ready for that! And if you have any ideas, feel free to leave a comment or send me a message at email@example.com!
Note: if you were already on the email list, you can still get your freebie! There should be a link at the bottom of each email you receive. If there isn’t, just hit reply and let me know. I’ll make sure to send it to you!
February 2016 Fails
Getting ahead… again.
This month, I didn’t get more than a week ahead, and a lot of the time I wrote posts the night before. UGH.
Letting too many voices in.
I got away from trying to learn about every social media platform, but instead I ended up signing up for all kinds of free webinars, email courses, and more only to find that the information was either stuff I pretty much already know, or that the person was just trying to sell me something. Many hours wasted. The only one that was worth it was the course I won from Blogelina — Tanya was so helpful and even gave some personalized help. She’s great if you’re still at the very beginning steps of starting your blog!
Not planning and budgeting my blogging time.
I just spent all my free time on my blog without a real plan this month. January I had to-do lists and stuck to them, and this month with all the different voices telling me different things I got overwhelmed and lost my own sense of direction.
What I Want To Do Now: Goals for March
Stick to a plan: focus on EBA!
This month I’m starting Elite Blog Academy and I am SO EXCITED! But I realized that to get the most out of it, I need to focus all my energy on it. The first thing I did to make sure I’m being really efficient with my time was to unsubscribe from EVERYTHING. I also got an awesome weekly schedule from Rosemarie at The Busy Budgeter for signing up for EBA, which seems way more realistic than what I was doing — it’s only 2 hours per day. I’m trying to get ahead so this week will be a bit more than that, but I’ve made my to-do lists already and I refuse to let anything get in the way!
Create a better freebie.
I’m getting the impression that you guys don’t really come here for money-saving tips, so I want to give you something you would absolutely LOVE. If you have any ideas, feel free to leave a comment or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org!
Continue finding other blogs like mine.
Again, if you ever come across one, do let me know! I love reading what other feminists have to say, and I really want to collaborate with fellow bloggers in my niche. If you’re interested, shoot me an email!

February 2016 Income Report
Media.net ads: $0
Sigh. Still not getting enough traffic. But no matter! I’m not going to worry about income until it comes up in the Elite Blog Academy. One thing at a time!
So I’ve yet to make any money, but I’m confident that EBA is going to help me earn the ~$1400 that I’ve spent back, even if it does take a while.
Now, a bit about why I went for EBA…
I know some of you staring at the screen thinking JEEEEZUS, lady! You haven’t made a dime yet and you’re spending $700 on some course?!
Simply put, yes I am. But it isn’t some course. It is THE course.
I’ve done countless hours of research into blogging and blogging courses, and Elite Blog Academy is not only the only one that seems truly legitimate, but it’s also the one that provides the absolute BEST value.
I’ve seen courses that supposedly improve your email list or give you an epic Pinterest strategy for $200-$500 alone. $700 for amazing info on absolutely EVERYTHING, which I get to keep for my entire life, plus bonus info, any updates and new features? AND it’s self-paced AND you get access to a forum where you can discuss and get advice from other bloggers?
PLUS a 100% money-back guarantee?
Doors don’t open again until fall, so I’ll be sure to keep you updated on my progress! I can’t wait to see what Elite Blog Academy brings.
And that’s all for my second month self-hosting! If you want to see more about how I actually set up my blog and the costs of that, click here 🙂
