Well, it’s finally here – happy new year! (If you read my guest post at Liv By Surprise, don’t mind me for wishing you that again!)
If we were having tea, I would tell you that it’s good to be back home. I finally get to be with little Matrix again! (And he just turned seven months old yesterday. Aww.) He’s almost done teething, and it’s noticeable — those teeth aren’t tiny anymore! He also learned a lot in the week we were away — he now knows how to jump from the counter to the top of the fridge, and yesterday he learned how to get from there to the highest “shelf” in our apartment: on top of the cupboards.
He was a little aggressive when we came back, but mostly because he really wanted to play, I think. Now he’s back to being chill little Matrix dude.
If we were having tea, I’d ask, what did you do to celebrate the New Year? I went to C’s place and we had drinks and played games, just chatted and had a nice night in. G got pretty drunk — he spent January 1st lying around the house feeling miserable. Unfortunately our extra two days before the weekend kinda went to shit as a result, but oh well.
If we were having tea, I’d tell you that though I don’t really set New Years’ resolutions, I do have some goals that I had set in December (or earlier) that will carry into the New Year. Here are some of them:
- Spend 2-3 hours a day during the week on my blog, and 3 hours a day on the weekend. I think this will help me not get stressed, because it’s reasonable and I can still get a good amount of work done in that time.
- Read more. I’ve mentioned this one before — and of course, I failed terribly at it. G and I have now promised each other that we’ll go to bed at 9 every day so that we can read for an hour before sleeping. I got three books for Christmas, and I’m working on the comics P gave me, so I can’t wait! I’ve missed reading.
- Save for emergency fund. I began this a few months ago but haven’t been successful especially because of Christmas. I’m determined to save at least three months’ worth of funds by June.
- Get active. Again I’ve mentioned this before… G and I signed up to do yoga classes this month, and I’ve signed up for kickboxing classes with C, which I’ll begin in February. It’s going to be hard since it’s been a couple years since I was in good shape, but I’m looking forward to it.
Did you set any New Years’ resolutions or carry over any goals?
If we were having tea, I’d be totally honest with you and tell you that I am dreading going back to work. I need the money, but my heart isn’t in it the same way. I like it, but now that I know I want to teach sex ed and pursue blogging seriously, it just seems like it’s in the way. And this week is going to be hard — it’s that school where the kids struggle a lot due to their circumstances. I really hope to make the best of it, but I also cannot wait to find success where my heart really is. How are you feeling about being back to work this new year?
If we were having tea, I’d ask you what you think of my new blog. I really care what you think — you are the ones who keep coming back to hang out with me, and I want to make it a place you love. What do you like about it? Are there things you think I should add, get rid of, or change, about any part of it? How do you feel about the placement of my ads? (I know that I’ve said I want to try to make money money from my blog, but it’s not all about that — I write because I want to share and because I want to give you something that you love and enjoy too. Ads are important but I will never let them take over — I promise. So please be honest!) I’d love to hear from you in a comment below, or shoot me an email at email@example.com.
It’s been nice to catch up. What else has been going on for you this past week?
